Make a Sun Plaque

Why not make a plaque of the sun to celebrate midsummer? You can choose any medium you wish: clay, play-doh, felt, construction paper….. or you can try salt dough.

Salt dough is pretty well known by amateur crafters, because it is easy and very inexpensive to make. It dries very strong, so your projects will last (maybe not forever, but for a very long time)!

The ingredients you need can be found in the grocery store:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 teaspoon alum (can be found either in the baking isle, or where you find ingredients for pickling)
  • water

Simply mix the dry ingredients, and add water to form a stiff dough (usually start with 1/2 cup, and then add more as needed).

Stir and knead the dough until it is pliable, like clay.

Now, just form whatever shape you want. To make it more magical, bless the water and salt before starting, and while you are kneading the dough and sculpting the masterpiece infuse the dough with energy and intention.

If you want, you can paint it before it dries.

When you are finished, take the project outside to dry and cure in the full sun, soaking up all that great, magical midsummer energy!

Hang the finished piece in your home to have access to the creative solar energy year-round!
